Studies on Metal Chelates of Dimethyldithiocarbamic Acid

Abstract
Metallic ions ordinarily react with dithiocarbamic acid to give the didentate chelates.
This paper pressents the results on the copper(¥°), nickel(¥±), iron(¥²), cobalt(¥±), and bismuth(¥²), metal dimethyldithiocarbamates, using the methods of spectrophotometry and thin layer chro-matography.
As far as the author know, there have been no published reports on the relation be-tween stability constants and the nature of the ligand involved.
For determination of metal-chelate composition ratio and stability constants, the method of continuous variation, introduced by Job and method based on Beer¢¥s law have been applied.
It was found that the order of stability constants for dimethyldithiocarbamates were Cu>Ni>Co.
The author, also, presents the results on the separtaion of metal dithiocarbamates of the thin layer chromatography.
Good results were obtained on separation of metal chelates with the ratio of 5:5 and 6:4 in the mixed organic solvents such as chloroform : cyclohexane, 4:6 in pyri-dine : cyclohexane, and 3:7, 2:8. 1:9 in chloroform : benezene.
